Pull an unmarked needle out of the bottom of your bag and you've got two options: guess, or find out. This gauge is the finding-out. Sixteen graduated holes run from US 2 all the way to US 15, and each one is marked with the US size, the metric size, and the crochet hook letter where there is one. Push the needle through until you hit the hole it passes cleanly, and you have your answer in every system a pattern might use.
It's a ruler on both edges too. Inches along the top, millimeters along the bottom, all the way to 120 mm. Lay it over your gauge swatch and count without hunting for a tape measure, or use it to check cable lengths and blocking measurements.
