ChiaoGoo TWIST Red Lace Interchangeable Cables

The red cables everyone else's cables get compared to.

Ask why knitters stay with ChiaoGoo and the answer is usually the cable. Multi-strand steel wire coated in red nylon: it comes out of the packet lying flat and it stays that way. No coiling, no memory, no dunking it in hot water before you can cast on. Ten years old and still limp as the day you bought it.

The join is the other half of the story. Each end is a smooth swaged steel connector, ground so the stitches slide from cable to tip without a bump or a snag. The threading is fine enough to tighten properly with a key, which is what keeps a join from working loose halfway through a raglan.

They come in three join sizes. Mini [M] for the smallest interchangeable tips, small [S], and large [L], each threaded to the matching half of the ChiaoGoo system. Whatever tips you own, TWIST, SPIN, Forté or SS, the cable in the same code fits.

Lengths run from a 5 cm stub for sock and sleeve knitting up to 125 cm for a whole shawl. Buy the one your pattern needs, or buy the two you keep borrowing from other needles.
