Merino is the fibre that does the work. Each strand is crimped like a tiny spring, which is why it knits with body — ribbing pulls back, cuffs hold, a sweater keeps its shape. It also absorbs up to a third of its weight in moisture without feeling damp.
Fineness runs from 15 to 24 microns, and that range matters more than the word on the label: a superfine merino is softer next to the skin than a coarse cashmere. On cones, wound to order from 50 grams up. For merino alone, see our 100% merino.
