Alpaca is hollow at the core. Those air pockets are why it insulates better than sheep's wool at the same weight, and why it carries almost no lanolin — the thing most people are actually reacting to when they say wool makes them itch.
Note that "baby alpaca" is a grade, not an age: it means fibre under about 22.5 microns, from an animal of any age. Blended, alpaca brings warmth and a soft halo to yarns that would otherwise be flat. On cones, wound to order from 50 grams up. For alpaca on its own, see our 100% alpaca.
